This 8-hour course is designed to satisfy the requirements under 29 CFR 1910.120 “Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard”; NFPA 472 “Standard for Professional Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials Incidents,” and EPA 40 CFR 311 “Worker Protection.”

Who Should Attend

Response personnel who provide an initial response to releases or potential releases of hazardous substances as part of an emergency or daily job function for protecting personnel, property, or the environment from the effects of the release.

These individuals are trained to respond in a defensive manner, without actually trying to stop the release. Their function is to contain the release from a safe distance, control the release from spreading, and prevent exposures. First Responders are not expected to use specialized protective clothing or specialized control equipment.
